Helping around the farm
Our free range chickens provide regular daily work on our farm. Residents are encouraged to learn how to look after the chickens, collect the eggs, and grade, label and box them before helping to deliver them to our customers and retail outlets.
Other animals include four alpacas, three pygmy goats, two kune kune pigs and two piglets who we are fattening for meat, a selection of ducks, and numerous birds housed in a large aviary, all kept within a purpose built area called Hero’s Corner. All animals are hand reared, which enables our residents to learn valuable skills in animal husbandry. We have access to two friendly horses stabled here, and residents and day placement guests can choose sessions in horse management and riding.
Residents also have the opportunity to learn to drive the small tractor, which is in constant use around the farm.
