What we offer:

Stallcombe House offers a wide range of educational and leisure opportunities. Arts and crafts, weaving, woodwork, cookery, music, horse riding, computer sessions, drama and dance are some of the therapeutic activities which can be enjoyed daily.

Regular trips take place to the theatre, the swimming pool and, of course, the shops. At Stallcombe we believe that people with learning disabilities should have similar opportunities to everyone else.

Stallcombe House aspires to ensure these special people have a quality of life that enables them to fulfill their own potential.

Every resident's care plan is devised to take into account the daily working schedule and will also include hobbies, activities, immediate needs, medication and dietary requirements. The resident's care manager, family and other relevant professionals are invited to attend the regular reviews. Wherever possible each resident takes a full part in the care plan and review.

About Us

A home and a place of work for adults with learning disabilities.

Stallcombe house

In a rural setting, approximately six miles from Exmouth and 8 miles from Exeter, the accommodation has been partly converted from an old farmhouse which dates back to the 16th century.

The original tack room, cart shed and hayloft now form The Cottage. Newer additions are Tudor House and Hero's Corner. There is a 50 acre farm, mainly laid to grass with free-range poultry and a five acre organic garden. The majority of Stallcombe produce supplies the main kitchen and supports our dietary philosophy. Most of our residents work on the farm or in the garden, with some helping on the domestic front.

Our residents help with the maintenance of Stallcombe's organic garden, producing fresh vegetables and fruit throughout the year. We are lucky to have large grounds, some of which can be devoted to purely ornamental use. Each area is constructed and designed with a large input from the residents and reflects different styles, including Japanese. The farm's main production is free-range eggs. Residents are encouraged to collect, grade, label and box them before helping with door to door deliveries.

Holidays have opened up a whole new world to our residents and in the past there have been visits to Spain, Canada, Cyprus, and Crete. Adventure weeks on Dartmoor, Holidays at Butlins, and quiet weeks just spent in a seaside cottage have all proved popular. The stimulation of travel has greatly increased our residents self respect and confidence. Parents, friends and care managers agree that the benefits surpassed their expectations.

We are able to care for learning disabilities, including some challenging behaviour and mild degrees of physical disability and mental illness. However, we cannot offer nursing care and do not have the facilities to cope with chronically challenging behaviour or severe psychiatric disturbance. Each application is progressed through a careful assessment of the individual's needs over a three month trial period.
